Hlemmur Mathöll
Skál
Once a fixture at Hlemmur Mathöll, Skál has now moved to new premises but remains as tempting a choice as ever. Its credentials are strong: it was the recipient of a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 and has been a firm favourite with reviewers at Reykjavik Grapevine for several years. With friends Gísli Matt, Björn Steinar and Gísli Grímsson at the helm, you can expect creative and tasty dishes crafted from local ingredients such as scallops, Arctic char and lamb.
Reykjavik Kitchen
Located around the corner from Hlemmur Mathöll on Rauðarárstígur, this lovely restaurant is only a five minute walk from the hotel. It’s a family-run place which prides itself on excellent service so you’re sure to receive a warm welcome if you choose to dine here. Pescatarians might try the coffee-cured salmon, pan-fried cod or Icelandic favourites such as ling and Arctic char; meat eaters can’t go wrong with the juicy lamb ribeye. Vegans are also well catered for with a dedicated plant-based menu.
Klambrar Bistrø
Klambrar Bistrø is located within the Reykjavík Art Museum Kjarvalsstaðir and is a tempting option if you’re looking for somewhere to eat during the day. Oversized windows ensure that you’ll eat in a light and airy space with gorgeous views out onto Klambratún park. The use of wood in the décor and plenty of houseplants bring this nature vibe inside too. The food served is Nordic cuisine with a modern twist. The combination of exquisite presentation and an emphasis on fresh local ingredients ensures that you won’t be disappointed. Best of all it’s barely a five minute stroll from the hotel.
